Sprectrum: Wright State hosts largest medical training operation in university history

Excerpt from the Spectrum News

On June 7, Blackhawk helicopters and controlled explosions fill the sky across Springfield, Fairborn and Wright State University’s Calamityville training facility.

Officials had told residents beforehand there was no need to be alarmed, all of it was for a large-scale joint medical exercise called “Relentless Valor.”

Nearly 400 participants from the 445th Aeromedical Staging Squadron, alongside the 944th Aeromedical Staging Squadron from Luke Air Force Base, Ariz.

Participants faced a multi-site exercise that took place at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport and Wright State’s Calamityville disaster training area. The exercise simulated complex medical operations both on the ground and in the air following a simulated invasion scenario.

“Frankly, it’s spectacular,” said Col. Michael Policastro, 445th Airlift Wing commander and a 2001 Wright State alumnus. “There has been a total buy in of the joint force partnership.”

Those involved in the training learned aeromedical, casualty evacuations and procedures within the joint training environment.
