DDN: Wright State continues to see financial outlook improve, university says

Excerpt from the Dayton Daily News

Wright State University’s global credit rating continues to improve.

Moody’s Investors Service, which provides ratings for various organizations worldwide and independently assesses credit risk, recently improved Wright State University’s outlook from stable to positive, while affirming its A2 issuer and debt ratings.

The rating is like a credit score, in that it can help determine interest rates for the university.

“Moody’s decision to revise our outlook from stable to positive reinforces confidence in Wright State’s financial trajectory. That stability allows the university to advance our mission of serving the region’s students — not just today, but for generations to come,” said Sue Edwards, Wright State University president.

These ratings show Wright State’s finances continue to improve following a financial crisis for the university around 2017.

Wright State University’s other scores, from its accreditor, the Higher Learning Commission, and the state of Ohio, also show it has a much better financial outlook than it did when both faculty and staff both faced layoffs between 2017 and 2021.
