William A. Bernie, 85, Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery
Dr. Bernie was a founding father of the Wright State University School of Medicine, where he has an anatomy lab named after him. He died Nov. 20, 2023.

Richard K. “Dick” Rathbun, 87, Assistant Dean, College of Engineering and Computer Science
Richard Rathbun passed away on Oct.19, 2023, in Centerville. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 5–7: p.m., at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Road, Kettering.

Clyde D. Barbour, 87, Associate Professor of Biological Sciences
Clyde Barbour shared his scientific life at home and the family menagerie included a monitor lizard, snakes, fish, ducks, a baby squirrel, cats and dogs. His family accompanied him on a memorable trip to band birds, including the unforgettable vomiting vultures in Mississippi. He died in the comfort of his home on Oct. 17, 2023.

Judith Lynne "Judy" Janicki, 76, Professor of Religion
Judy had a love for horses from a very early age. She was able to recite every horse that won the Kentucky Derby and Triple Crown. She ended up owning 15 horses at one time. Judy also loved going to the Ohio Renaissance Festival, working with jousters and only missed one year since it opened.…

Prior to joining Wright State University in 2004, Kevin Duffy held faculty positions at The University of Texas, Arlington, and West Virginia University. He died on August 23, 2023.

Mildred D. (Bayless) Farmer, 87, Secretary, College of Liberal Arts
Mildred always read books, and enjoyed learning history and classics, working puzzles, flower gardening, cooking, baking and spending time with family. She was a positive inspiration and light to all who knew her. She died on August 21, 2023.

Carolyn Ann Baker, 75, Billing Clerk, Printing Services
Carolyn loved to cook, loved her dogs and cats and really enjoyed spoiling her nieces and nephews. She died on August 20, 2023.

Loretta Sophia Metzler, 91, Technical Writer, Cox Heart Institute
Loretta was active in the Civil Air Patrol and had a lengthy career at Cox Heart Institute. A published technical writer, she was one of the few women who were breaking the glass ceiling at the time in computer language and programming. She died on August 3, 2023.

Phillip Boyd Conway, 76, Lab Technician Coordinator
A Vietnam veteran having served in the US Air Force, Phillip Conway was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion. He died on July 8, 2023.

Helen Gail Altman Klein, 80, Professor of Psychology
Helen taught psychology at Wright State for 37 years, conducting research into early childhood development, cross-cultural communication, parenting and temperament. Her research lab was an exciting place with ideas flying, and she loved guiding her undergraduate and graduate students. Sarah Selkirk Timmons, 88, Associate University Librarian for the Fordham Health Sciences Library
Sarah was a member of the London Business and Professional Women, and volunteered at the Madison County Hospital. She enjoyed reading and walking, and for many years knitted warm clothing for the Seaman’s Church Institute. She died on May 12, 2023.

Barbara O’Brien, 81, Administrative Assistant, Department of Physics
Barbara loved spending time in nature and at Indian Lake, was a faithful and talented organist for many years at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Enon, and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her kind, generous, and humble spirit will be missed by all who knew her. She died on April 23, 2023.
