Excerpt from the Dayton Daily News
By Tom Archdeacon
Paul Newman and Mike Cusack — two Wright State athletic administrators now long retired — talk occasionally on the phone. Cusack lives in The Villages in Florida and Newman lives in Beavercreek.
“OK, who died now?” Cusack said when he answered Newman’s call a while back.
“Every time I call him, I update him on who passed away,” said Newman, who was WSU’s senior associate athletics director and worked for 21 years alongside Cusack, the school’s AD.
“This time I said, ‘No, this is good news Mike. You’re gonna like it.’”
Newman wanted to tell him about someone they both knew well.
Someone who was coming back to life:
“I told him, ‘Rowdy Raider is coming back!’”
