Dominic Pangonis bookended the first 20 minutes of the season with a pair of shots around the basket.
He began his night with a two-handed slam to the right of the rim. The final seconds of the half ended with him stealing an inbounds pass following a putback basket by Noah Lewis and allowed him to easily finish off a perfect 8-for-8 session of shooting.
His other six attempts all came from beyond the arc and he connected every time.
His 27 points in the first half nearly matched Air Force and allowed Wright State to cruise in its season opener 102-71 as part of the second annual Stars, Stripes and Flight Classic at the Nutter Center.
Pangonis ended the night with 30 points on 9 of 10 shooting — making 6 of 7 three-pointers and 6 of 7 from the free throw line in 32 minutes. He slammed home two more points early in the second half to begin the regular season making his first nine attempts. He didn’t miss a shot attempt in the exhibition against Bellarmine either.
“It was good, you know, it was a good day,” Pangonis said. “But you know, we were up 30 at halftime. I feel like we started with our defense, though. I think we let up too many points, honestly.”
